We’re All In This Together…

It’s nearing May, and as a senior in high school, graduation is just around the corner. In just a few weeks, we will be strolling across the stage wearing our cap and gown, ready to cross over into the real world. So, as this season nears, it is only appropriate to listen to music prompting us into our next chapter.

Here are some of the best graduation/inspirational songs. They give a little nostalgia, but most of all, you realize just how much time passed.

11. “Best Day of My Life” - American Authors

  • Released in 2014, this alternative/indie hit quickly made lists for the best summer, the 2010s, or road trip songs. It was nominated for the World Music Award for World’s Best Song and Radio Disney Music Award for Best Road-trip Song. This song is the epitome of upbeat and lively. It truly makes any day, the best day of your life.

10. “History” - One Direction

  • As a final farewell between One Direction members and their fans, it acts as a bittersweet reminder of memories and friendship that will last a lifetime. It’s similar to your high school classmates. Many of them you have known for your entire lifetime, making that bond irreplaceable. Even though we move on, as this song reminds us, nothing from the past becomes undone and erased. It will be there forever.

9. “See You Again” - Wiz Khalifa

  • Written originally by Charlie Puth, this tribute to the actor Paul Walker who died in a car accident while filming Fast and Furious 7, honors the memories of a beloved friend. Listening to it reminds you of the pain of losing someone you care about. In a way, graduating is a goodbye to those who you have known for so long. However, the uplifting message is that goodbye doesn't mean forever gone.

8. “I Gotta Feeling” - The Black Eyed Peas

  • Released in 2009, this hype pop hit gave people back a feeling of hope and feeling happy just to be alive. It even won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Perfect for graduation parties, or just a night out, this song will remind you to bathe in the moment surrounded by your friends and family.

7. “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” - Simple Minds

  • This rock track depicts the exact sentiment of saying goodbye to a friend/significant other, knowing their relationship will not dwindle once they are apart.

6. “Counting Stars” - OneRepublic

  • This pop classic reminds us that there are better and brighter things to come in the future. We shouldn’t worry about wealth or stress too much about things we can’t control. Overall, this is one of the best songs I’ve probably heard. It reminds all of us to value more to life than wealth and to remember the best is yet to come.

5. “We Are Young” - Fun ft. Janelle Monae

  • A classic song about relishing in the luxury of youth. You only live your life as a teenager once. Live it well and to the best of your ability. This song reminds you that anything is possible and to fall in love with being alive.

4. “Here’s To Never Growing Up” - Avril Lavigne

  • This is probably the most nostalgic song on this list. It similarly reminds us that it’s okay to live your life how you choose, young and full of fun adventures. Avril brings every teen back to a place of fun and spontaneity.

3. “Don’t Stop Believin” - Journey

  • Another inspirational, classic, brilliant song that encompasses all it feels to have hope for yourself and your friends. Always remember that a new chapter will offer a multitude of opportunities for your personality and life.

2. “Congratulations” - Post Malone ft. Quavo

  • If your school refuses to play this song at the end of your graduation ceremony, I am simply sorry. This sits at #2 for its wide popularity and upbeat presence. I don’t know a single teenager who doesn’t know this song. Full of reminiscence and pride, this song will remind you again that you finally made it through four years of schooling.

1. “We’re All in This Together” - the High School Musical Film Cast

  • Sorry to those who find disappointment in this song at #1, or do not know this song. (btw if you don’t know this song you MUST go listen to it). This song is the epitome of good memories, bringing together your class despite any differences or shortcomings during the year. My plan is to play this song as soon as I can.

Anyway, that’s it for today’s blog! Happy graduation everyone! Can’t wait to see where you all take your lives…
